Exploring our elders or multidisciplinary projects over several months
Since September, they have been researching in the literature, visiting various institutions, communicating with experts, creating models, recording films, recording interviews. Each project had to have a tangible output, so it was not enough to just collect information and create a presentation. The outcomes and experiences from each project were then shared together during the student mini-conferences held in December. It was evident that the students inspired and engaged each other. And the parents were not hiding their amazement either, as they had the opportunity to see the results of their offspring's work at the project exhibition. Together we were really proud of our second graders!
And what is all this for? Second graders tackle similar projects every term. The main theme is different each time. They can work in mixed groups so that they are enriched across the year groups. Most importantly, they have the opportunity to go in-depth in an area that interests them, learn more than they can by working together in class, and then pass it all on to their classmates. Not to mention the other skills and competences they develop that are not even related to their expertise. We are already looking forward to seeing what will be created in the second semester!
